Usage Tips for outSPOKEN v2.0
and other software
Demonstration software of outSPOKEN, inLARGE, drivers patches and
updates can be downloaded from the
appropriate product information pages of the manufacture site.
MS Office 97
- outSPOKEN is compatible with the new Office '97 menu and toolbars. However
with some desktop schemes of Windows '95 and '98 outSPOKEN will not read the
menu bar when you press the Alt key. We recommend that you use the Windows
standard color scheme and Office '97. It is fairly simple to change the font
size in the menu bar.
- outSPOKEN supports toggling between the toolbars with Ctrl-Tab and reading
the Buttons with the Left and Right Arrow keys. You will find that outSPOKEN
will say all buttons but not the combo boxes with font type and size. The
contents of these boxes can be read with the outSPOKEN navigation keys KPD 6
and KPD 2.
- You can work with the office '97 assistant using the outSPOKEN navigation
keys. To get at the beginning of the dialog window of the assistant press
the outSPOKEN HOME (KPD 7) command. Read the options in the dialog with the
DOWN and UP command. You can also use the TAB key to go through the options.
When no text is announced, press the DOWN key (KPD 2).
- Tips on hiding the office assistant. The next time that you start Office
'97 the office assistant will be inactive. When you press F1 you get the
normal Help Window. Press F1 to activate the office assistant. Tab through
the dialog box with the TAB key to highlight the button Options... Press
this button with the spacebar. This gives a dialog box with all capabilities
of the office assistant. To be sure that the office assistant will not be
activated when you press F1, we suggest that you TAB through all options and
uncheck them by pressing the spacebar. Press the OK button to leave the
dialog box. The next thing you have to do is to get rid of the office
assistant. Press the outSPOKEN TOP WINDOW command (KPD /). Because the
office assistant is shown in a floating window above your document the KPD /
command will guide you to the upper left corner of the office assistant.
Press the outSPOKEN RIGHT key (KPD 6) once and you will be on the close
symbol of the office assistant. Press the MOUSE (KPD 5) key, and the office
assistant will be hidden.

Word 6.0 and 7.0 (Office '95) and Word '97
- The outSPOKEN graphic dictionaries for Word are defined for 256 colors.
Use the normal toolbar buttons in color. The icon dictionaries are not
defined for the large buttons.
- To get the maximum number of lines of your document visible on the screen,
and to prevent lines from appearing outside the right edge of the window, we
suggest that you set the view of your document to normal. Go to the menu
"View" and select the first option "Normal".
- If you want outSPOKEN to jump to the beginning of the text on the screen
with KPD 7 and not to the first toolbar, we recommend that you deactivate
the toolbars and the ruler at the top of the window. Go to the menu
"View", and select the menu option "Toolbars...".
- When you read through the text with the outSPOKEN up and down keys (KPD 2
and KPD 8) empty lines are skipped. With the outSPOKEN option "Lines
Approximation" you will hear a rough estimate of the number of empty
lines that are skipped.
- When text is both highlighted and italicized, outSPOKEN only tells you the
italicized attribute and not the highlighting when you use the outSPOKEN
INFO key.
- The automatic spelling and grammar correction takes a lot of system
resources. Especially with software synthesizers this may cause that the
synthesizer becomes sluggish and does not respond to commands. We recommend
switching the automatic spelling and grammar control off. Select in the
Tools menu the Options dialog. Uncheck the "Check spelling as you
type" and "Check grammar as you type" checkboxes on the
"Spelling & grammar" tab page.
