VERA KEYS
The Off Key: Use this key to turn off VERA. After you press this key, VERA will
ask you to confirm and remind you to turn off the scanner, monitor and reader as
well.
Reading Keys:
The Scan Key: Press this key to start scanning a page that you have
placed on the scanner. When your press the Scan key, VERA will say,
"Scanning" and the page number it is scanning. You can stop scanning
by pressing the Stop key. The Read Key: Press this key to start reading a page
that has been scanned. When your press the Read key, VERA will start reading
from the top of the page. You can stop reading by pressing the Stop key.
The Stop Key: Press this key to start stop reading or scanning a page.
Movement Keys:
The Line Up Key: Press this key to move to the beginning of the line
before the one you are reading, then continue reading.
The Line Down Key: Press this key to move to the beginning of the line
after the one you are reading, then continue reading.
The Page Back Key: Press this key to move to the beginning of the page before
the one you are reading, then continue reading.
The Page Forward Key: Press this key to move to the beginning of the
page after the one you are reading, then continue reading.
The Word Back Key: Press this key to move to the word before the one
you are reading. VERA will speak that word, but will not continue reading until
you press the Read key.
The Word Forward Key: Press this key to move to the word after the one
you are reading. VERA will speak that word, but will not continue reading until
you press the Read key.
Hidden Keys: The Mode Key: Press this key to switch the two different ways of
reading a page: Across the Line, or Down the Page. The Speed Key: Press this key
and VERA scrolls through five different voice speeds from slowest to fastest,
then back down to slowest again.
The Size Key: If you are using a monitor: Press Size and VERA scrolls
through five different on-screen font sizes from smallest to largest, then back
down to smallest again.
The Color Key: If you are using a monitor: Press Color and VERA scrolls
through five different on-screen background and text color combinations.
The Erase Key: Press this key to erase the page you are currently on.
After you press this key, VERA will ask you to confirm your decision. The Spell
Key: Press this key and VERA will say the word you are currently on, then spell
it.
The Help Key: Press this key, and all of the keys stop doing what they
normally do. Now when you press a key, for example VERA describes the key's
function for you.
