If you experience garbled text output when using Hal or Supernova, then you may be using a Windows 3.x video driver, or there are errors in the "Unicode to Glyph" index in the TrueType font that is currently being displayed on the screen.

Do not use Windows 3.x video drivers as they do not contain a "Unicode to Glyph" index.  If you do,  then Hal and Supernova will only be able to speak characters from the standard Windows ANSI code page.
