How to run Lunar before the Windows 95 user login box |
This section describes how to enable Lunar to run before you log-in to Windows 95 and contains information about editing the Windows 95 Registry.
Warning: You are strongly advised to make backup copies of your Windows 95 Registry files before attempting any of the following steps. If you damage your Registry Windows 95 may fail to load. (The Registry files, SYSTEM.DAT and USER.DAT, are hidden files in the Windows 95 directory.)
To enable Lunar to run before the Windows 95 user login box a new entry needs to be made to the branch:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/RunServices
in the Windows 95 Registry. (If the RunServices branch does not exist then create it using the "New - Key" option in the Registry Editor's Edit menu.)
You need to create a key under the RunServices branch with the name you would like to assign to this service, for example "Lunar95". The value of this key should be the full path (including filename) to the Lunar program file, e.g. "c:\l95\lunar95.exe".
From now on, each time you start Windows 95, Lunar will automatically load when the user login box appears. (You may have to wait a few seconds whilst Lunar "kicks-in".)
For more information about how to edit the Windows 95 Registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" on-line help topic in the Registry Editor program (REGEDIT.EXE).
