Henter-Joyce Technical Support Notice #8 (TSN-8)
Subject: JAWS w/Sticky Keys Not Working Properly
Henter-Joyce Product: JAWS for Windows 3.20.09
Category: Windows NT
December 9, 1998
JFW causes the Sticky keys accessibility option in Win NT to perform improperly.
Renaming the Jfwkeybd.vxd file in the JFW32 Directory fixes this problem in Win 95. In Win
NT this procedure has no noticeable effect on the following: In any word processor like
Word Pad, Notepad, or Word, key combinations such as CTRL + Home, CTRL + End and CTRL +
Shift + end do not work. In the Jaws Utilities menu (Alt + U)/Configuration Manager (C)/
Ctrl + O /DEFAULT.JCF/Enter/Set Options (Alt + S)/Keyboard Options (K)/In the Keyboard
Options dialog, tab to the checkbox labeled "Differentiate between numpad keys and
extended keys"/check the box (space bar)/Tab to OK/Exit the file (Alt + F)/(X). A
message box asks if you want to save changes, choose YES (enter). Close Jaws and restart
Jaws. This workaround has some obvious flaws:
- User can only use the 6 row pack (not num pad)
- Any scripts that might be tied to the keys (home or end) will only work from the num
pad.
