About MAGic for WindowsMAGic (MAGnification In Color) is a software solution ideally suited for low-vision computer users, or anyone who is required to spend extended periods of time in front of a computer screen. MAGic uses a Microsoft Windows video display driver that supports 256 colors (Super VGA) to provide text and graphics magnification for Microsoft Windows programs. You can enlarge Microsoft Windows application screens, dialogs, and windows from 2 times to 20 times their normal size on your PC, laptop, or notebook. MAGic provides seven different magnified viewing areas (MAGicViews) from which you can choose. The unmagnified portion of your screen is called the RealView. MAGic makes moving anywhere on the screen easy by tracking the movements of one or more objects, such as the mouse, menus, dialogs, and so on. Screen locator options enable you to maintain accurate screen-to-context position at all times. MAGic's multi-directional panning system allows you complete control during screen review with adjustable speed, direction, stop and start, and screen navigation controls. For easier viewing, you can reverse screen colors, mask over unwanted color combinations, and customize the shape and color of your mouse pointer. MAGic offers a single-window graphical user interface with click-on buttons and hot keys to make access to MAGic features quick and easy whether you use a mouse or your keyboard. You can quickly fine-tune the magnification attributes of MAGic by setting preferences for magnification, panning, tracking, hot keys, and more. Backup ConsiderationsThe Authorization Key cannot be backed up and restored like other system files. If you back up your hard drive onto diskettes or tape, we suggest that you move the Authorization Key back to your original Authorization media before you perform any disk maintenance activities such as reformatting; then move the key back to your computer hard disk drive when you have finished. If you are replacing your hard drive, you must first move the Authorization Key from your hard drive to your Authorization media. See Moving the Authorization Key. Moving an Authorization KeyThe Authorization Key normally loads automatically onto your computer during the installation process, however, there are times when the Authorization Key or part of the key loads improperly. When this occurs, you can manually install/move the Authorization Key from the Installation media to your hard drive. Following these steps to move the Authorization Key to your hard drive: 1. Open the Start menu and enter the HJAUTH command in the Run dialog. For example, type the following in the Run dialog: C:\MAGIC\HJAUTH.EXE 2. Press Enter or click OK to run the HJAUTH program from your installed MAGic default directory. 3. When the dialog box appears, select the appropriate radio button from the list of Available Commands to install or uninstall the Authorization Key. Remember that you are moving (installing) the Authorization Key from the Installation media to your hard drive. Note: If you encounter an error message indicating that you do not have any more Authorization Keys to copy, or that there is already an Authorization Key on the hard disk drive, see Determining the Number of Keys or Getting a New Authorization Key. Determining the Number of KeysIf you encounter an error message indicating that you do not have any more Authorization Keys to copy or that there is already an Authorization Key on the hard disk drive, you may want to check to see how many Authorization Keys you have. To determine the number of keys: 1. Insert your original MAGic Installation media into the appropriate drive and open the Start menu. 2. Type A:\HJAUTH in the Open field of the Run dialog, and then press ENTER. NOTE: To check for the number of Authorization Keys on hard drive, follow the same steps above except type C:\MAGIC\HJAUTH, where C: is the destination of your hard drive and MAGIC is your default installation directory. 3. When the dialog appears, select the authorization location (diskette, CD-ROM, or hard drive) and then select the appropriate radio button to get the install count. 4. Choose the EXECUTE button to display the number of Authorization Keys. 5. Next, select the appropriate radio button to get authorization information, then click the EXECUTE button. The Information section of the window displays authorization statistics such as Serial Number, Current Version, Reset Usage Count, Expire Date, Version Type, and other valuable details.

Using the Mouse or the KeyboardUsing MAGic is as easy as pointing and clicking a mouse button or pressing a few keystrokes (Hot Keys) on your keyboard. Both methods are presented in this help file. Whichever method you prefer, MAGic's graphical user interface provides everything you need in a single window (dialog box) to make magnified screen viewing simple, quick, and easy to use. MAGic is a Windows application that has all the same graphical properties you will find in other Windows applications. You can use your mouse pointer to locate objects, select menus, open dialogs, start tasks, choose options, and make choices on the screen. For example, to begin magnification, you can place your mouse pointer on the Magnification button of the MAGic dialog box, and click the left button to start the task. You can also perform the same task from the keyboard using MAGic Hot Keys. MAGic Hot Keys are keystroke combinations that function similarly to Windows Shortcut keys. For example, to start magnification when MAGic is running, you would press the CONTROL and ACCENT (`) simultaneously, and a MAGicView would open. NOTE: Throughout this document, and other MAGic manuals and online documentation, references to clicking menu items, option controls, or buttons implies that you press the left mouse button. If the right mouse button is used, documentation will indicate that you should right-click the mouse. Also, please note that these terms assume the mouse is set up for a right-handed user. Although our mouse terminology may not match your mouse settings, the mouse functions are the same. You can use the mouse and Hot Keys interchangeably or in combination, the choice is yours. Throughout our documentation we present both options so that you can decide which works best for you. NOTE: A number of MAGic Hot Key Actions have no assigned keystrokes. These actions are listed in our documentation with "None" as their keystroke. This allows you to create keystrokes for these actions that do not conflict with shortcut keys in your favorite applications. You can also create your own personalized keystrokes for a particular MAGic action, including assigning current keystrokes to the value "None".

Click the MAGic icon in the left corner of the Title Bar, and then click Exit. From the File menu, click the Exit command whenever the MAGic dialog has focus.
