In a character web, students identify the character traits of the
protagonist. This reinforces the concept of point of view and helps
students understand the action and the conflict that occurs in a story.
When students are reading more complex tales, a character web can
also show how the protagonist develops as the story proceeds. For
example, you can have students create the web after reading the first
chapter of a story and then save it. After the second chapter, they can
open the document and change what they've written to reflect their new
understanding.
