( Editor's Note: This topic was originally written in December of 1998. Since this topic was written, Dragon NaturallySpeaking announced the version 4.0 family (see NatSpeak Version 4.0 for more information). Most of the editions of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 4.0 are similar in features to those discussed below. One exception is that Dragon Point & Speak has been renamed to Dragon Essentials. I will revise this page when I get a chance to reflect the latest information.)

Dragon NaturallySpeaking (US English) currently ships in the following versions:

Products as of January, 1999

• Dragon Point & Speak 3.52

  Dragon Point & Speak is not actually a version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, but it is based on the same technology. Point & Speak is sold through mass-market channels and it allows you to dictate into any Windows application. Point & Speak is basically Dragon NaturallySpeaking without the Dragon NaturallySpeaking editor and without Select 'n' Say error correction.

• Dragon NaturallySpeaking for Teens

  A special version of the Standard Edition which includes acoustic models and vocabularies designed for teenagers. Some features of the Standard Edition, however, have been removed to simplify this product. (See NatSpeak For Teens.)

• Dragon NaturallySpeaking Standard 3.52

  The Standard Edition is the low-end version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself.

• Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred 3.52

  The Preferred Edition is the high-end retail version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It contains all of the features of the Standard Edition plus additional features such as playback of recorded speech and text-to-speech.

• Dragon NaturallySpeaking Mobile

  A complete copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred, plus a Dragon NaturallyMobile pocket recorder (see NaturallyMobile Recorder) and recorder interface software

• Dragon NaturallyOrganized

  A new mobile product which allows you to dictate tasks, appointments, e-mail, notes, etc. into the Dragon NaturallyMobile recorder and have that information automatically transferred into Symantec ACT!. A complete copy of Dragon NaturallyMobile is included. (See Mobile Organizer.)

• Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional 3.52

  The Professional Edition is the version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking which is aimed toward professionals and which is sold through the VAR channel. The Professional Edition add support for multiple vocabularies and user created macros.

• Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical Suite

  The Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical Suite is the Professional Edition plus a base vocabulary optimized for medical applications.

• Dragon NaturallySpeaking Legal Suite

  The Dragon NaturallySpeaking Legal suite is the Professional Edition plus a based vocabulary optimized for legal applications.
