Everybody
loves the circus and children will have a great time learning about adjectives and
opposites in this exciting environment. In addition to all-new graphics and animation,
Adjectives and Opposites offers new activities and customization features.
-
- Six Exciting Circus Rings
- Before the program begins, you can select the circus rings the child will visit. You
also have the option of allowing the child to choose rings independently during the
lesson. In the Explore and Identify activities, the ringmaster and six special shows can
be used for extra motivation.
-
- Accessibility
- Children can access this program with a keyboard, touch screen, mouse, or a single
switch. If the learner is using a mouse, an enlarged cursor is available. If the child is
using a single switch, you can choose either step scanning or linear scanning and a new
red outline scans each item.
-
- Automatic Record-Keeping Saves You Time
- At the end of a lesson, a summary of the student's performance appears on-screen and can
be printed out. With our unique User Log, you can collect all of a student's records from
Laureate Macintosh programs in one file.
Seven Activities Available
 |
- Two Highly Structured Training Activities
- The Train Vocabulary and Train Opposites activities use a two-picture format to provide
direct instruction on each of the 38 nouns and 26 pairs of opposites.
-
- Three levels of training are available. At the lowest level, the learner is given
instruction, cuing, and feedback. As the child progresses, the computer drops cuing and
then instruction.
- You can set the program to train all of the words or select specific items to be
targeted. These activities can be used to ensure that a student knows all the items before
being asked to identify them in full-screen scenes.
|
 |
- Three Exploratory Learning Activities
- The Explore Vocabulary, Explore Adjectives, and Explore Opposites activities provide
learners with opportunities for open-ended exploration of the six full-screen scenes.
-
- You have the option of displaying only the items in the main ring (14-20 items per
scene) or displaying the audience as well (10-20 additional items).
In Explore Vocabulary, the learner selects an object and the computer says the name of
the noun (e.g. "This is a lion.") In Explore Adjectives, the computer says the
noun and its accompanying adjective (e.g. "This elephant is sad.") In Explore
Opposites, the computer presents an item and its opposite (e.g. "This seal is
heavy... and this seal is light.") In all three activities, objects animate when they
are selected. |
 |
- Two Full-Screen Identification Activities
- In Identify Adjectives and Identify Opposites activities, learners identify items within
full-screen scenes. In Identify Adjectives, the computer asks the child to identify an
item based on its adjective. (e.g. "Find the wet clown.") In the Identify
Opposites activity, the child finds pairs of opposites (e.g. "Which car is
clean?" and "Which car is dirty?")
If the child answers correctly, the object animates. You can set the program to ask the
child all of the items within a scene or select specific items to be targeted. |
