Product Description:
Many of you have asked us for full-screen graphics to help train early developing vocabulary in context. This exciting series encourages users to explore and interact with vocabulary items in natural settings. Each of the three programs uses simple, logical scenes to illustrate a variety of nouns or verbs.

Engaging Animation
You select how many items to train in each scene and whether cuing is on or off. You can also decide whether to have the Blob, Breaker, and Roggi offer animated reinforcement for correct answers. These programs not only enhance vocabulary identification in context, they reinforce the concepts of word relationships and categorization. Both children and adults will enjoy exploring these engaging scenes.

Special Macintosh and Windows 95 Features
With the Macintosh and Windows 95 versions, cuing, response, and reinforcement animation can be set separately. In the scanning mode, you can choose between linear and step scanning. You can also select from a variety of cursor sizes. You can collect all of a student's records from Laureate's programs in one file.

Three activities encourage exploration.

Explore Nouns/Verbs
In Exploring First Words and Exploring First Words II, you select an object and the computer gives its name (e.g. "This is a duck."). Then the object animates. In Exploring First Verbs, when you select an object, the computer uses the verb in a sentence and shows its verb action. You can choose Simple Present (e.g. "The boy waves.") or Present Progressive tense (e.g. "The man is sneezing.").

Explore Nouns and Descriptions
You select an object and the computer gives its name and a short description (e.g. "This is a dog. Dogs bark."). Then the object animates with accompanying sound effects. (Not available on Exploring First Verbs.)

Identify Nouns/Verbs
In Exploring First Words and Exploring First Words II, you are asked to find various nouns according to their names (e.g. "Find the drum."). In Exploring First Verbs, you are asked to identify verbs in the Simple Present (e.g. "Find... This girl pets the dog.") or Present Progressive tense (e.g. "Find... The woman is licking an ice cream cone.") In all three programs, if you answer correctly, the object animates and an animated character provides reinforcement.

Exploring First Words

screen shotThis program uses the 50 nouns from First Words in 10 exciting scenes. The words are arranged by category in realistic scenes. To enhance some of the scenes we've included many words not covered in First Words such as "barn," and "tree" in the farmyard scene. The Blob keeps users attentive with amusing animated reinforcement.

Exploring First Words II

In the exploring mode, many additional nouns are included. Breaker's animated antics captivate users and motivate them to participate.

Exploring First Verbs

screen shotThis program shows the 40 verbs from First Verbs in 8 full-screen scenes. Interesting animations illustrate the action of each verb. In the exploring mode, some of the nouns can also be selected. Roggi keeps the users engaged with his exciting animated routines.
